An Ode to Home

This is my little love letter to the city where it all began for me - Seattle, Washington, USA. Surrounded by ocean, lakes, mountains, forests. Filled with sports, music, and culture. Seattle embodies many of the things that inspired me and is the place where my career truly began to develop. In a city that represents so much to me, I had no shortage of places and inspiration to pull from. In the end, I decided on five scenes that were iconic in my eyes. From the Seattle Center to the elegant orcas in the sound, I took inspiration from real life and transformed it into a magical world of mechanical, wooden toys.

My aim for this film was to take recognizable places and represent them in a novel and comical way. In the end, I created a fun piece that captures both the movement and style I am continually developing, and my love for the Emerald City.

I created this piece during a short time living in Dublin. I am not usually one to get homesick, and more often than not, I find joy and freedom in being in new and unknown places. However, during a period of a few weeks, I found myself feeling quite nostalgic and alone, missing the place that I called home. I took that feeling and coped with it in the best way I knew how - through art. These little scenes were a wonderful little escape and devilishly fun to animate. The process of ideation, modeling, and animating each scene brought me back to all of the places that make this city a place that means so much to me.
