Kanon

Imagine, every morning and evening, a loud blast surprises you in your home. It sounds like a bomb went off. Maybe an accident at a construction site? No... it sounds... older. Historic. That was canon fire. The first time I heard the canons, I jumped in the air. After a few short weeks in our new apartment, I learned it was just the Danish way to signal the country to raise their flags in the morning and lower them at night. However, being that my wife and I are not Danish, my mind would run wild every morning and evening after the initial shock wore off. Were they shooting off actual canons? Where were they aiming? Out to sea? Towards the city? What happened every morning when those canons were loaded, lit, and fired? This little short is a fun representation of the weird and wonderful worlds that exist in my mind. Enjoy, Kanon.

I created this short during my time as Art Director at Frame in Copenhagen. My work at the studio was purely focused on products, and although I enjoyed working with the team and was proud of the work I did there, I found myself constantly missing the joy of telling stories. This short became a passion project I would work on at nights and in the mornings before work. I would wake up at 3 am to get work in before heading into the office and was really fulfilled during that time from the joy of creating something fun and creative again. I took inspiration from around the city, going on strolls to take pictures and sketch little pictures of the bins, the buildings, the trees, and everything else I could find. This short is full of little easter eggs that hopefully reflect the amount of joy I took from creating it.
