Hi, I’m Jake.

I am a visual artist based in Ciboure, France. For more than 10 years, I have been working with clients around the world as a 3D animator, art director, photographer, and technical director.

I am currently working as the managing director and creative lead at Ambient Press

2022 — Present

A bit more about my skillset.

  • I have been working with animation for all of my professional life. From projection mapping to VFX, then onto product advertising and into narrative work and short films, I have a long history of using a wide range of tools and working with a variety of teams and mediums. The principles of motion hold true no matter what the method of execution is. At the core, I will always be a designer, but animation is my favorite way to express that love of design.

  • I was 19 the first time I worked as an art director for a major projection mapping project. To this day, it is still my principal role despite working in various roles across the production spectrum. At my core, I want to take ideas and communicate them in a clear and beautiful way. I used to struggle with the difference between an Art Director and a Creative Director - especially in the world of advertising. However, over the years I have realized that my role as an art director is to help take ideas, whatever the medium or end usage, and make the visuals cohesive, compelling, and unique.

  • Although the most public parts of my career have been focused on the visual side of animation, since my first job with projection mapping, I have been working on the technical side with pipeline development, render optimization, rigging, dynamics, and simulations. Primarily working with Houdini, technical development is a key part of the art I create and the approach I take to problem solving.

  • Photography is my passion, it is my way of seeing and learning to better experience the world around me. My camera has always been a tool to help me focus on details and look for beauty in unique places. A companion for travel and a tool for discovery, photography has always existed in parallel to my life as a designer and art director.
